Women's "Joshua Tree" Long Trail Pants

Pants that breathe, last, and get softer

Named for the national park in Southern California, these are our go-to women’s hot-weather pants: 100% woven hemp built for desert sun, dusty trails, and long days when shorts stop feeling like enough. A relaxed, straight-taper leg and smooth-front, elastic-back waistband create room for air to move instead of trapping heat, while the clean lines and soft drape make them just as easy to wear with hikers on granite slabs as they are with sandals in town.

Features & Fit

Woman wearing Joshua Tree - Women's Breathable Hemp Trail Pants in Orpiment (Turmeric) and Canyonlands - Women’s Long-Sleeve Ventilated Hemp Shirt in Agave (Light Green)
  • Cooler with coverage: Relaxed, straight-taper leg creates natural ventilation channels that keep you roughly 3–8°F cooler than nylon pants, with an airy hemp weave that breathes up to 4× better than denim.
  • Natural sun defense & freshness: Dense, chemical-free fabric gives you UV protection that never washes out. Hemp’s natural odor resistance helps reduce odor-causing bacteria so you can comfortably wear them 2–3 times longer between washes.
  • Flattering, comfort-first waistband: Smooth, flat front with belt loops for a clean look, paired with an elasticized back waistband that flexes with you instead of digging in.
  • Deep, usable pockets: Don’t know why these need to be highlighted as a feature… but Terlingua Threads pants have them. Plus we have buttoned pockets on the back.
  • Intended use: Hot-weather hiking, scrambling, guiding, and everyday wear in both arid and humid conditions
  • Fit: Women's relaxed straight fit; easy through the seat and thigh without feeling baggy; mid-rise for comfort under packs and hip belts
  • Leg opening: Boot-friendly opening designed to sit cleanly over hiking boots or sturdy shoes
  • Waistband: Features internal elastic to keep close to your waist with belt loops to accommodate your favorite belt

Before You Buy

  • How is the durability? Pretty darn good. The Joshua Tree pants are 100% woven hemp, which is inherently tougher than knit fabrics, and we've reinforced the seams and high-abrasion areas based on extensive prototype testing. Hemp has roughly double the tensile strength of linen, and unlike synthetic hiking pants, it doesn't degrade from UV exposure or develop that permanent synthetic smell over time. It resists pilling well, though it's not immune to it. A sharp rock on a scramble can still snag and tear the fabric (that's true of any pant, synthetic or otherwise). And when something does eventually give, natural fibers are far easier to repair than synthetics.

  • What’s the difference between the men’s & women’s version of the Joshua Tree pants? The women's Joshua Tree pants have a clean internal waistband (no external drawstring) and are cut to account for wider hips, whereas the men's version uses an external drawstring and a straighter cut through the hip. These design choices came from feedback from our prototype testers.

  • How should I choose sizing? We use letter sizing (e.g., S, M, L) with an internal elastic waistband, so there's some forgiveness in the fit and you don't need to nail an exact waist measurement. The trade-off is length. If you're on the shorter side of the size range, the pants may run long. Our honest recommendation is to take them to your local tailor and get them hemmed, which should cost about $10-$15. We know that's an extra step, and we wish we could offer every waist-length combination. But keeping our sizing simple lets us keep production costs lower instead of adding an extra $40 to the price to support dozens of different size variants.
