Cancellation policy
Last updated: 19 July 2026
This policy applies when you select a pre-order purchase option at checkout: paying a deposit now with the balance charged before your order ships. It is meant to be clear, fair, and practical, for you as one of the first members of our community, and for us as a small business making garments in limited production runs.
If anything here is unclear, email info@terlinguathreads.com.
1. Key terms
Pre-order. You are reserving a piece that is not yet in stock. It is cut to order in an upcoming production run rather than shipped from existing inventory.
Production run. A single batch we cut in our studio near Porto, Portugal. Each run has an order window with a published close date on the product page.
Order window close. The date the run stops accepting orders. On that date we send the studio the final count and commit your size to cutting. Several rights in this policy are anchored to it.
Estimated ship date. The best estimate shown on the product page and in your order confirmation. It can change; Section 7 covers your rights if it does.
2. How a pre-order works
Placing a pre-order charges a 10% deposit, which also takes 10% off the full price. Your deposit reserves your size in the run named on the product page.
The remaining 90% balance is charged to the payment method on file before your order ships, typically when we begin fulfillment for the run. We email you before that charge happens. If applicable, shipping and any taxes or duties are handled according to your checkout at the time of order.
We do not ship a pre-order until its balance is successfully paid.
3. What you are agreeing to
By placing a pre-order, you acknowledge and agree that:
- The piece is not yet in stock and will ship on or around the estimated ship date.
- Your order may be delayed, and Section 7 sets out your rights if it is.
- You authorize us to charge the remaining balance to your payment method before the order ships.
- You are responsible for keeping a valid payment method on file until the order ships (Section 6).
4. Cancelling your pre-order
Because a pre-order includes a discount in exchange for committing early, and because we cut only what is reserved when the order window closes, cancellation rights change at that point.
Before the order window closes, and for up to five days after it closes: you may cancel for a full refund of your deposit to your original payment method.
More than five days after the order window closes: your size has been committed to cutting, and the deposit is non-refundable for a voluntary cancellation.
Whenever we cannot deliver what you reserved: your deposit is refunded in full to your original payment method, regardless of timing. This applies if we cancel a production run we are unable to fulfill, if a colorway does not reach the minimum quantity we can produce, or if we miss our estimated ship date and you choose not to wait (Section 7). Statutory cancellation and withdrawal rights that apply in your country are honored in addition to everything in this policy.
Once your order has shipped: it can no longer be cancelled, but our Returns and Exchanges Policy applies after delivery.
To cancel, email info@terlinguathreads.com with your order number and "Cancel pre-order."
5. Changes to your pre-order
We will do our best to help with changes before shipment, though changes depend on timing and available inventory.
Address. Contact us as soon as possible. Once a shipping label is created or the run is in fulfillment, address changes may not be possible.
Colorway. You may swap colorway up to five days after the order window closes, subject to availability, by replying to any email from us. After that, cutting is committed and swaps are no longer possible.
Size. We can sometimes adjust size if the run allows; contact us and we will tell you what is possible.
6. If your card expires or the balance charge fails
You are responsible for keeping a valid payment method on file until your order ships.
If your card expires, is replaced, or the balance charge does not go through, we email you at the address used at checkout with a secure link to update your payment method. Your piece stays reserved while we work it out with you.
We hold your reserved piece for fourteen days from our first payment-failure email. If you update payment within that window, we proceed with shipment and you keep your pre-order discount. If payment is not completed within fourteen days, we may cancel the pre-order and refund your deposit in full to your original payment method, and the piece returns to available inventory.
Banks and card networks control how long a refund takes to post. We process approved refunds promptly; your financial institution may take additional time to reflect the credit.
7. Delays and your right to cancel
We aim to ship every run by its estimated ship date. If we learn we cannot, we will notify you with a revised estimate, or explain if the new date is not yet known, and give you the option to cancel for a full refund to your original payment method instead of waiting. If you choose to wait, you may still cancel any time before shipment under the terms in Section 4.
8. If we cancel your pre-order
In rare cases, a quality issue, a production constraint, or an inventory error, we may need to cancel a pre-order ourselves. If we do, you receive a full refund of any amount paid to your original payment method.
9. Waitlist (separate from pre-orders)
A waitlist is not a pre-order. If a piece is sold out, you can join its email waitlist to be notified when it returns in a future run. Joining a waitlist involves no deposit and no payment, and it does not reserve inventory or guarantee an allocation the way a deposit does. When the piece is available again, you complete a normal purchase at that time.
10. Mixed carts (pre-order plus in-stock items)
If you buy in-stock items alongside a pre-order, we may ship everything together once the pre-order is ready, or split the shipment where our systems allow. If you want in-stock items right away, we recommend placing a separate order for them, or emailing info@terlinguathreads.com and we will arrange separate fulfillment.
11. Refunds
Refunds for voluntary cancellations within the window, and all refunds where we cannot deliver, are issued to your original payment method. Once we process a refund, your bank may take additional time to post it.
