We're designing gear to buck the trend of planned obsolescence.

Behind Our Pricing

Why ours costs more to build

Two shirts on one scale. Take everything it costs to make a standard polyester sun shirt as a single unit. Our comparable White Sands hooded sun henley will cost significantly more to produce.

Standard polyester sun shirt· cheap to make1× · the baseline
Terlingua Threads· hemp, Portugal, small batchabout 4× to make

Fabric · Trims · Sewing · Finishing · Testing · Freight, left to right in both bars.

Same scale, both bars. Illustrative proportions.

The fabric

5× the cost. Woven hemp and hemp-Tencel cost several times what petroleum polyester does, before a single yard is cut.

Trims & thread

3× the cost. Bespoke Terlingua Coyote™ buttons in 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, woven labels, & quality embroideries.

Two women working together on cloth design

Our craftspeople

4× the cost. A small, woman-owned studio in Portugal that's paid fair European wages, rather than the lowest-cost labor market on the map.

Slide image

Quality control

2× the cost. Each piece is individually inspected for the smallest defects. We set aside defective items for sample sales rather than tossing them.

Slide image

Packaging & trim

2.5× the cost. We use recyclable or post-consumer recycled material to reduce landfills. Our hang tags can be saved as bookmarks.

Tariffs & duties

2× the cost. Small EU shipments plus real apparel duties do cost more per unit than mass-market bulk containers.

Where other brands will outspend us

We don't buy social media clicks

We do everything scrappily in-house.

  • We shoot photos using our own cameras, write, and post everything ourselves.
  • We have our friends help us out with photoshoots rather than hire the most expensive influencers.
  • We designed the website and answer customer queries ourselves.
  • We put money that would've gone towards grabbing your attention into the garment instead.

As a small, self-funded business, it's a tradeoff we chose to make. If you haven't heard of us or see that we have a small Instagram following, that's why.

We mark up our garments less

Two of our values are to honor our craftspeople and to honor our customers. We seek to keep our prices as competitive as we feasibly can in order to respect you and not bamboozle you with heavily marked-up, poor-quality product with shiny marketing.

No big box. No marketplace.

You won't find us on Amazon. We sell our gear either through our own website or through independent, family-owned retailers.

Direct to you.

We earn a higher margin through our online store. This helps us fund future product development & testing.

Through independent shops.

We believe small business is the future of America. We are proud to support an ever- growing list of independently-owned retailers that are beloved within their communities.

You could spend less. We know.

Our gear is to be the most loved outdoor brand in the world, not necessarily the most-profitable. We want to design gear that will last you as long and age as gracefully as a pair of your favorite leather boots.

Proudly designed in America, made in Portugal. Developed and sold by real people just like you, one order at a time.
