Men's "White Sands" Long-Sleeve Hooded Henley

Sun-proof without the synthetic feel

Named for the National Park in southern New Mexico, our Men’s White Sands long-sleeve hooded henley is built for brutal sun and long miles. Our 55% hemp / 45% lyocell blend pairs permanent, chemical-free UV protection with a lightweight, disappearing hood and the toughness to outlast polyester.

Features & Fit

  • Sun Armor, No Chemicals: UV protection that never washes out— up to 600% better than cotton and just as (if not more) effective as treated polyester without degrading over time.
  • Built for Breathability: Dissipates heat 30% better than polyester and 40% better than cotton. Breathable especially in arid weather, so you stay cooler under load.
  • Trail-to-Town Utility: Three-button henley + featherlight hood that disappears under a cap for fast neck/ear coverage.
  • Disappearing Hood: Light, oversized hood designed to accommodate hats and small helmets or hide within the garment
  • Fit: Relaxed through the shoulders and body for airflow, with extra long sleeves and reinforced thumbholes

Before You Buy

  • Does it show sweat? It depends on the color. White and black are the most forgiving. Prickly Pear pink shows some, and Agave green shows a bit more. In dry climates, a visible sweat mark is often gone within minutes. If visible sweat bothers you, white or black are the safer bet. But if you're choosing Agave green because you like the muted desert tone, know that what you're seeing is the fabric working, not failing.

  • Does color affect heat? Yes. The Desert Willow white, Prickly Pear pink, and Agave green all perform similarly. The Ironwood black absorbs more sunlight and will feel warmer, especially in direct sun. The trade-off: darker colors block more UV. All of our colorways have natural UV protection built into the hemp fiber itself, but if maximum sun protection is your priority, black has the edge.

  • How see-through is it? Agave green and Ironwood black are fully opaque. Prickly Pear pink is nearly opaque, and Desert Willow white is semi-sheer (not see-through). A high-contrast tattoo or brightly colored undershirt may be faintly visible in the white, but skin tone alone typically doesn't show. In our prototype testing, the white performed well on its own without a base layer. If you want zero sheerness, green or black will get you there, but most people wear the white confidently on its own.

  • How does it feel when sweating? It feels different than polyester, and that's by design. The hemp-tencel blend absorbs moisture rather than repelling it, so the fabric will feel heavier when you're perspiring. Polyester feels lighter because it's not absorbing anything, but that moisture is just sitting trapped between the fabric and your skin. Hemp-tencel pulls it into the fiber, spreads it out, and lets it evaporate. That evaporation is what's actually cooling you down. The sensation takes a wear or two to get used to, but our seasoned prototype testers (especially in dry heat) stopped noticing the weight and started noticing the cooling.

  • Is the hood too big? We intentionally sized the hood large. The previous version sat closer to the head, which looked cleaner but caught the wind too easily and didn't provide adequate sun coverage. The current hood stays put. It's sized to fit over a hat or cap, and at its fullest it will extend past your forehead. If that's more coverage than you want, slide it back an inch or two and it'll sit where you need it. We'd rather give you a hood you can adjust than one that won't stay up.
